Why High Frequency words need to be instantly recognised-
saves time, meaning can be lost, prediction can be difficult, some ar hard to know by phonics
Searchlight Model
struggling readers and writers are not using all the searchlights- phonics, context, grammar, word gecognition/graphic knowledge

play a game- word ladder game, 10 second speed race, slap!, chase the chopstick, match
